AMC’s WebCasting team has had its hands full for the last couple of months! The variety of the events we’ve covered has also kept us on our toes. They include events such as benefit concerts, awards shows, fashion shows, and telethons. Check out the highlights from our past several gigs!
Every year, the Epiphone Revolver Music Awards Show honors the great musicians in the heavy metal industry. It takes place in December, and this year, it was held in New York City for the first time. The show was webcast from Webster Hall, and AMC supplied the live streaming services. The show’s hosts were Dave Mustaine, the frontman from the group Megadeth, and Jose Mangin, who hosts the radio station Liquid Metal on SirisXM. Several renowned musicians were in attendance, as presenters and recipients of awards, and as performers. Megadeth and Anthrax were the show’s joint headliners. Lacuna Coil, Stitched Up Heart, and Zakk Wylde performed sets as well. The presenters were not all musicians, however; Norman Reedus, himself a metalhead, appeared to present Frank Bello of Anthrax with the Revolver Music Innovator Award. AMC got great footage of the show, and a rockin’ time was had by all!
January was an exciting month for the AMC WebCasting team. On the 19th, the eve of Inauguration Day, an activist group called Say No to Fascism held a benefit concert to raise awareness for their organization. The concert had an impressive lineup of musicians from the greater New York City area, most of whom were jazz musicians. Arturo O’Farril, 5-time Grammy winner and director and pianist for the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, hosted the concert. Larry Blumenfeld, who writes for the Wall Street Journal was the concert’s Master of Ceremonies. Our team was once again able to listen to great music while shooting!
UpWorthy’s national event The Love-A-Thon took place the very next day. The Love-A-Thon was a three-hour telethon that was live streamed to Facebook. It raised money for Planned Parenthood, Earthjustice, and the ACLU. The Love-A-Thon’s host was Judah Friedlander, well-known comedian and self-proclaimed World Champion. The telethon featured live interviews with representatives from each of the three organizations. Dr. Leslie Cantor, Vice President of Education at Planned Parenthood; Lisa Garcia, Vice President of Litigation for Healthy Communities at Earthjustice; and Dale Ho, director of the ACLU’s Voter Rights Project; all gave interviews. The telethon included prerecorded video messages from each of the organizations, and messages from several celebrities, endorsing the cause. Rashida Jones, Josh Gad, George Takei, and Jane Fonda all made video submissions. The Love-A-Thon was highly successful, raising over $165,000 during the three-hour program.
February saw the AMC crew at Fashion Week! Chinese designer Chi Zhang made his Fashion Week debut aboard the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Musuem. Despite the exclusivity of the show’s location, it had a casual air. The models danced to dubstep as they walked down the runway, which circled The Enterprise Shuttle. The collection reflected the casual air of the show; graphic t-shirts and sweatshirts were heavily featured. Many of the models also sported full-length leather and fur coats. AMC got great footage—both video and stills—of the show!
